Summary

The MA in Theology (Wesley Studies) and the parallel Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate offers a systematic examination of the theology and history of John and Charles Wesley, and the Wesleyan Tradition. The course serves to resource missions and ministry, support continuing professional development and act as an excellent platform for further research. In addition, full-time and flexible part-time routes make study accessible for everyone – wherever you are in the world!

Many of the units studied through this pathway have been developed by and are taught by specialists from the esteemed Manchester Wesley Research Centre (MWRC). This specialist Research Centre promotes and supports research on the life and work of John and Charles Wesley, their contemporaries in the 18th century Evangelical Revival, their historical and theological antecedents, their successors in the Wesleyan tradition, and contemporary scholarship in the Wesleyan and Evangelical tradition. This includes areas such as theology, history, biblical studies, education, ethics, literature, mission, philosophy, pastoral studies, practical theology, and social theology.

The MWRC is located on the campus of Nazarene Theological College and is affiliated with the Methodist Archives, housed in The John Rylands Library. These research centres provide magnificent resources for students and researchers in this field.

The MA in Theology (Wesley Studies) and its parallel Postgraduate Diploma course both have four course units. The Postgraduate Certificate course has two course units. These course units are normally structured around ten two-and-a-half hour seminars. The seminars are supervised by specialists in the appropriate disciplines. In-depth reading, group discussion and preparation of written assignments are all included within the course units.

Nazarene Theological College is an approved partner of The University of Manchester, delivering programmes developed by Nazarene Theological College, approved by and leading to an award of the University of Manchester.
