All the training you need for a successful career as an Assistant Director and/or Floor Manager.
Delivered in partnership with the BBC Academy, this highly practical course will give you all the knowledge and know-how to get your career off the ground.
Being an Assistant Director or Floor Manager is a demanding role that requires a level head, self-confidence and strong communication to ensure a production is delivered successfully. You will be responsible for the operation of the shooting set or television studio. Your objective is to provide the director with everything they need to realise their vision, our objective is to give you all the skills and techniques you will need to provide this.
You will collaborate with fellow students in other specialisms to make films and TV entertainment shows. And you’ll also benefit from a minimum of 10 days of work experience in an Industry setting.
**Course Facilities**
You will be working at the only UK film school with its own Industry standard film studio and 4K Television and rehearsal studios, giving you invaluable on-set experience and the most up to date training.

Summary
In partnership with the BBC Academy, this unique 13-month Postgraduate Diploma course aims to give students the skills and capabilities for a successful future career as a First, Second, Third Assistant Director and/or Floor Manager. It is delivered in partnership with the BBC Academy and with the support of The Production Guild of Great Britain.
Being an Assistant Director or Floor Manager is a demanding role that requires a level head, self-confidence and strong communication to ensure a production is delivered successfully. They are responsible for the operation of the shooting set/television studio. Their objective is to provide the director with everything they need to realise their vision.
Students will collaborate with those in other specialisms to make films and TV entertainment shows – with all production costs met by the School. A minimum of 10 days of work experience is included in the course timetable.
All NFTS students can attend Masterclasses. This course is industry recognised by ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the UK's screen-based industries, and carries the ScreenSkills Select quality-mark which indicates courses best suited to prepare students for a career in the screen industries.

Entry requirements | We are looking for people who are practically- minded and who have a good general education, although there are no specific educational requirements for this course. We would expect those applying to have had hands-on experience of film, television or other related creative production activity either via their previous University or College experience or professionally. While many applicants will have a degree from a British or overseas university, we will consider applicants who do not have a degree if they have an impressive portfolio, a creative track record or an alternative qualification. If you are an EEA or International citizen, you must already be in possession of UK settled/pre-settled status or another visa which allows you to study for the duration of the course. If you do not already hold a UK status, unfortunately we cannot accept your application as we are currently unable to support a visa on our Diploma courses. It is delivered in partnership with the BBC and with the support of the Assistant Directors Association and the Production Guild.
Being an Assistant Director or Floor Manager is a demanding role that requires a level head, self-confidence and strong communication to ensure a production is delivered successfully. They are responsible for the operation of the shooting set/television studio. Their objective is to provide the director with everything they need to realise their vision.
Students will collaborate with those in other specialisms to make films and TV entertainment shows – with all production costs met by the School. A 10-day work experience placement is included.
All NFTS students can attend the School’s masterclasses programme, with recent guests including Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve), Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna, Diego Maradona), Lynne Ramsay (You Were Never Really Here, We Need to Talk About Kevin), Louis Theroux, and M Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Glass).
