MA Games Art challenges you to expand your creative and technical practice through an advanced interdisciplinary programme designed to extend your portfolio with a deeper understanding of game art production techniques, and a collaborative investigation of world-building and storytelling for games.
Designed to mirror industry practices and delivered by academics actively working in the game sector, our course proactively ensures relevance to contemporary game art roles equipping you with the skills needed to succeed in the field. Our industry partners provide valuable insights through guest lectures, portfolio reviews and networking opportunities, further helping you refine your practice and prepare for your career as a game artist.
At the School of Digital Arts (SODA) you'll have access to a full suite of cutting-edge facilities, including a dedicated motion capture studio, VR/AR labs, a virtual production studio, and PrintCity, the University's 3D printing centre, enabling you to explore the latest techniques and processes in game art production.

You'll have access to a full suite of cutting-edge facilities, including a dedicated motion capture studio, VR/AR labs, a virtual production studio, and PrintCity, the University's 3D printing centre.

| Entry requirements | You should have at least a 2:2 undergraduate UK honours degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. games design; visual effects; computer games; games art; computer games programming; 3D modelling; concept art; animation; multimedia design; website production). Equivalent EU/international qualifications are also accepted. Applicants who do not meet these criteria will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Other professional qualifications will be considered on merit and/or with relevant professional experience. Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English language qualification. No specific subjects are required for the course. However, a background in art based subjects and/or knowledge of 3d and game engine technologies would be advantageous. |

As a games art student you will be part of the School of Digital Arts (SODA) and will be based within a purpose-built building, equipped with the latest emerging technologies to enable you to develop industry-standard skills for creating and researching content across the latest digital platforms.
SODA is well positioned within Manchester for building a network and developing your research and practice in the media, games and digital tech industries. It is also home to staff from a wide range of disciplines who are research active and experts in their chosen areas. They enjoy well-established links to the wider creative media, arts and digital tech industries in Manchester, nationally and internationally.
The exciting interdisciplinary nature of the course may involve collaborative opportunities with students on other SODA courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, from faculties across the university, such as Arts and Humanities and the Department of Computing and Maths in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Supported by guest lectures from international artists, industry practitioners and academics, you will position your work within wider professional and global contexts to develop an innovative, creative practice and research projects.
