Summary

Students on this programme will benefit from a wide range of research expertise and professional experience from both Exeter University and the London Film School. They can offer supervision across a range of areas in film history, theory and criticism in North American, European and world cinema, including: gender and sexuality, film technology and special effects, sound, genre, digital cinema and new media, postcolonial and ‘accented’ cinema, questions of national and transnational cinema. Specialist supervision from the London Film School can be given across all areas of film practice: directing, cinematography, editing, sound and screenwriting. They welcome proposals that will draw on the full range of narrative, documentary and non-narrative/experimental filmmaking. Students are currently being supervised in the following areas: Cinematography and the dynamics of authorship; folk and oral traditions in the context of national cinema; new directions and approaches to the essay film; exile and home in immigrant or accented cinema; representations of parenthood in contemporary British cinema; women in central Asian cinema.
