University of Bradford
With over 50 years of academic excellence behind us as a University, we continue to grow our postgraduate reputation, course provision, and research impact.
We have always been pioneers in developing new course subjects and modes of teaching, reflecting and anticipating the needs of employers, our students, and of society as a whole.
Pioneering new programmes through research
The 2014 REF rated 74% of our research as world-leading or internationally excellent. The University has recently been at the forefront of quality research in fields as diverse as artificial intelligence, dementia, skin care science, peace-building and archaeology, and our course provision reflects our research prowess.
Our programmes are designed and delivered by leading academic experts across the Faculties of Engineering and Informatics, Health, Life Sciences, Management, Law, and Social Sciences.
“It’s good to be around academics you can trust and go to if you have a problem, and who are also so enthusiastic and full of ideas.” – Natasha Micic, PhD Computer Science
Global student population
Our campus is a diverse global village of 8500 students. We’re home to over 1300 international students, representing more than 130 nationalities. Our global student population stretches around the world, with more than 700 distance learners studying from their homes and workplaces.
“The highlights of my time at Bradford were the relationships and the people. Something that really attracted me was the incredible diversity – the real multi-dimensional diversity in terms of age, nationality, religion, gender, and professional interest.” – Will McInerny, MA Conflict Resolution (Rotary)
Campus life and accommodation
Our campus offers everything you’ll need – there are study spaces, including our state-of-the-art postgraduate research lounge, a 24/7 library, a bookshop, food and drink outlets and a fitness and lifestyle centre. We also have our own on-campus theatre, gallery and music centre.
Our award-winning sustainable student village ‘The Green’ is situated at the heart of campus. Apartment and townhouse accommodation is available to all undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Bradford’s diverse, welcoming city centre is just a 10-minute walk from campus. The historic city enjoys a thriving arts scene with numerous galleries, theatres and museums, and is home to the National Science and Media Museum. The newly-opened Broadway features over 80 big name stores, while Sunbridge Wells offers boutique shops and a range of bars and restaurants.
With excellent transport links, Bradford offers easy access to the cities of Leeds and Manchester, and the Leeds Bradford airport. Also on the city’s doorstep are the picturesque towns of Haworth, Saltaire, Ilkley and Otley.
Clubs and societies
The University of Bradford Union of Students offers more than 60 societies. These include clubs dedicated to sports, subjects, activities and countries. The societies are managed by passionate students, and offer a great way to find friends with shared interests and enjoy activities and social events. Students are also encouraged to form new societies if they feel there is a gap in the current provision.
“Student life here is so motivating because of the variety of activities available; the trips, the hikes, and the events organised by the international students’ union.” – Nadia Maamoun, School of Management Postgraduate Exchange Programme (MA)
The University invests over £4m in scholarships every year. We award non-repayable scholarships to UK, EU and international students on the basis of academic excellence, personal circumstances or economic hardship. We also award a number of subject-specific scholarships every year.
