About Royal Holloway
Royal Holloway, University of London, is ranked in the top 25 universities in the UK (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, 2019) and the top 300 universities in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 2018-2019). Through world-class research that expands minds and changes lives, the dedication of our teachers and the feel of the Royal Holloway experience, ours is a community that inspires individuals to succeed academically, socially and personally.
We were founded by two social reformers who pioneered the ideal of education and knowledge for all who could benefit. Their vision lives on today. We are strengthened by diversity, and welcome students and academics who travel from all over the world to study and work here, ensuring an international and multicultural perspective within a close knit and historic campus.
We have a student population of 10,615, with 1,803 postgraduate taught and 777 postgraduate research students.
Our academic and research successes
We are acknowledged worldwide for our pioneering work across the arts, humanities and sciences and change lives through our research. The latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) ranks us in the top 25% of UK universities for research rated as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent”.
Recent research which has had real-world impact includes: work by our Biological Sciences department to develop an innovative gene therapy to treat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and research from our Department of Psychology, which has led to fairer and more effective ways of gathering and using eyewitness evidence. Meanwhile, Victoria Mapplebeck, from our Department of Media Arts, won the Best Short Film BAFTA in 2019 for Missed Call, the first commissioned short film to be shot on the iPhone X.
