Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is a place like nowhere else … powered by performance, its people and their passion.
Established in 1847, RCS is consistently recognised as a global leader in performing arts education. In 2021, RCS was named as one of the world’s top three destinations for performing arts education by the QS World University Rankings.
RCS offers undergraduate and postgraduate tuition across the specialisms of music, dance, drama, production, film and education. To study at this institution is to be immersed in a creative and collaborative arts community with students from more than 60 countries, and innovative and specialist staff.
RCS partners with all of the national artistic companies to provide students with the very best learning experiences the Scottish landscape has to offer. Partners include BBC, National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Ballet, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Ensemble, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Opera.
This world-leading conservatoire is home to some of the finest educators and performers, all united in their commitment to nurture the next generation of performing and production artists. RCS prepares students for the world as it is and as it will be in the ever-evolving landscape of the arts.
RCS is a centre of performance, with six professional venues and the curriculum is built around performance, encouraging students to create new work, collaborate with peers across disciplines and develop ideas across a range of platforms, both physical and virtual.
RCS is one of Scotland’s busiest arts venues and pre-Covid, welcomed more than 60,000 audience members each year to more than 600 events. In the challenging period of the global pandemic, we have created a thriving digital platform, RCS at Home, that allows students to perform and share their artistry with audiences around the world, allowing more people than ever to enjoy performance from Scotland’s national conservatoire.
We are located in the heart of Glasgow city centre. Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city and is a UNESCO City of Music. Renowned for being the world’s friendliest city (Rough Guides 2020), Glasgow has a legendary music scene with more than 130 events taking place each week.
Home to five of the six national arts companies and more than 100 cultural organisations, this vibrant city is bursting with creative energy, making it the perfect place to study the performing arts.
The historic capital of Edinburgh is less than an hour on the train from Glasgow, and you can also access the beauty of Scotland’s scenery easily from the city.
RCS graduates are a talented and richly varied group that makes a significant impact across the globe.
