Robert Gordon University

Robert Gordon University has recently been awarded Scottish University of the Year 2021 - Times Good University Guide.

With a history that dates back to 1729 when Robert Gordon founded a hospital to educate the poor children of Aberdeen.  He had a remarkably modern belief that his investment in the education of his community would equip them with the skills and knowledge to strengthen their success in Europe and further afield. Today, more than 260 years after his death, the University which bears his name remains true to his spirit and enterprise.  In more recent times RGU has invested £120 million into creating a state-of-the-art, stunning riverside campus, with facilities to enhance the student’s learning experience and employability.

RGU has a student population of around 16,000 from 147 countries, across 11 schools.  The international community makes up around 10% of that overall number, and the ratio of male to female is 38% male to 62% female.

63% undergraduate, 35% Postgraduate and 2% research.

RGU has over 300 courses available, and areas of research to explore.  As a professionally focused University many of our courses have industry experience built in, to give students a marketable edge when they start their career.

Many of the 12 month masters courses have a live industry project option, which students can select instead of the academic dissertation.  In addition to this, RGU also boasts a successful extended masters programme which is 24 months long and includes an internship in the 2nd year.  These close links with industry is why we are ranked 2nd in the UK (Top in 50 in the world) for graduate employment. (QS graduate employment rating 2020)

RGU is a TEF (Teaching Excellence Framework) Gold rated institution which is a government backed assessment of teaching quality and puts us in the top 20% in the UK.  Our student satisfaction surveys are also testimony to this.  “I chose to study at RGU because besides offering lots of growth and development opportunities to students, it has a really great student satisfaction ranking.”  Flora Wong MPharm student 2020.

Students who have studied with us have gone on to hold many prominent positions throughout the world, with a strong alumni of 90,000 students based all over the world.  “To be honest, I have done a fair amount of homework before jumping into my masters.  There are various things about RGU that caught my interest… I approached the alumni of RGU via linkedIn, and had chats with them to rate the university on its merit and I really was impressed with the positive feedback I received.”  Kiran Ravinuthala Data Science student 2020.

Based in the north east of Scotland, Aberdeen is in the top 10 best student cities in the UK (QS Top Universities 2019) and was named as the best city in Scotland and top 10 in the UK to live and work in (Demos-PwC Good Growth for cities index November 2019).  With 2 Universities, Aberdeen city has a vibrant student community, with everything a student would want from their international experience.
