By way of illustration, we are recognised as the only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice in the UK and BU has a long tradition of success at the Oscars, with BU graduates working on Oscar winning films such as Avatar, Gravity and The Jungle Book. In 2010 and 2014, BU graduate Andy Lockley took to the stage to collect the Oscar for visual effects for his work on Inception and Interstellar respectively.
Fellow graduate Mark Ardington was on the Academy Award stage in 2016, collecting the visual effects nod for his work on the film Ex Machina.
BU graduates are poised to celebrate 2018 Oscar success, with BU graduates involved in all five of the nominated films in the visual effects category at this year’s Academy Awards.

Modern resources and facilities
We deliver a great student experience, and have invested heavily in ensuring our learning and social spaces are modern and attractive. That’s why we were awarded a silver award in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework – recognising that we are delivering high quality teaching, learning and outcomes for our students. We are continually improving and there is much more to come in terms of new facilities.
As well as offering modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms, dedicated laboratories and 24 hour open access computing centres, our specialised academic facilities include: purpose-built studios for computer animation and digital special effects, recording studios, editing suites and a HD Sony television studio, Rapid Prototyping Suite, Virtual Manufacture Centre and unique ‘crime scene house’ available to forensics students.
Our postgraduate courses in Business and Management are based at the Executive Business Centre; a modern and contemporary building cementing BU as a prominent member of the local business community and acts as an ideas exchange for the region.
There’s also a wide range of accommodation to choose from and modern sports facilities.

Bournemouth offers a vibrant cosmopolitan community with fabulous shopping, nightlife and a thriving music and arts scene.
Extensive transport links bring the rest of Britain and continental destinations even closer to Bournemouth. London is less than two hours away by train and the ever-expanding Bournemouth Airport provides an excellent gateway to Europe.
