Summary
Study complex environmental problems such as contamination, affecting both human health and the ecosystem. Apply your practical forensic training and analytical expertise to progress to a career within regulatory bodies, industry or research.
Environmental Forensics is the application of scientific methods to investigate sources of contamination in the environment. Environmental issues are of concern worldwide as evidenced from the previous two COP meeting in Glasgow and Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt). This field is an important area for growth in Forensic Science.
In this course you will learn to identify the source, distribution and effects of environmental contaminants, for example in air, water and soil, and the effects on human health and the ecosystem. You'll gain a strong understanding of data science to evidence your findings, for example modelling of chemical fate to predict where the greatest impact of pollution will emerge.
Careers could be as diverse as investigating sources of oil spills to monitoring pharmaceutical drugs in waste water. Our graduates will have the expertise to use defensible analytical methods and be able to support cases that go to court. Analytical expertise coupled with a knowledge of data handling and an awareness of environmental legislative issues worldwide will make our graduates highly employable particularly for public bodies and private environmental consultancy firms.
