Why study Politics and International Studies at Leeds?
The School of Politics and International Studies at Leeds is a unique department in the UK, bringing together research and teaching in the areas of politics, international relations and global development.

Part of the research led Russell Group universities in the UK, the School has a thriving postgraduate community with over 200 students studying on postgraduate programmes, and many of these coming from overseas.

The University of Leeds is ranked in the top 100 in the world in the QS World University Rankings, and was previously University of the Year in 2017 according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

Our Research Expertise
Research within the School covers a range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary subjects, areas and agendas within the fields of politics, international relations and security and global development.

Much of our work is highly international in orientation and academic expertise covers Africa, North America, Asia, the Middle East as well as Europe and the UK.

The School is home to a number of research centres and groups; Global DevelopmentCentre for Democratic Engagement; European Centre for the Responsibility to Protect; Centre for Security Studies; Leeds Institute for Data Analytics; and Contemporary Political Theory

An International Community
Each year we welcome a large group of international students from across the world. With around 7,000 students from outside the UK studying at the University, student support services are excellent. With pre-departure briefings in many countries, meet-and-greet schemes and induction programmes on arrival, we do everything we can to help new students settle into university life.
