“Our mission is to deliver world class research and teaching, educating our graduates to become future leaders and innovators, and benefitting the wider population through our research, enterprise and influence.”
Why choose Bath for your postgraduate study?
The University of Bath has an international reputation for its high quality research and teaching. We are ranked as a top ten UK university in the Guardian University Guide 2020, and 87% of our research is rated as world leading or internationally excellent (REF 2014).
Bath is home to over 5,100 postgraduate taught and research students, representing over 130 nationalities. We are a rich and diverse community of researchers, teachers and students committed to excellence.
Much of our research addresses real-world challenges and issues. Students and staff work in partnership with business, industry and the public sector - so our graduates enjoy some of the highest rates of employment and starting salaries in the UK.
We are one of the safest campus sites in the UK - we were one of the first universities in the country to win a national police approved security award. We pride ourselves on our 24 hour Library and Learning Centre, outstanding arts facilities, and a first-class £30m sports complex.
The Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science offers a diverse range of graduate courses and pathways at master’s and doctoral level across six departments:
- Biology & Biochemistry
- Computer Science
- Mathematical Sciences
- Pharmacy & Pharmacology
Postgraduate students benefit from being immersed in a strong research culture, with opportunities for interdisciplinary projects. The Faculty prides itself on its excellence in research in the mathematical, physical and biological spheres, from fundamental studies to applications in industry, medicine and society.
The Doctoral College is the centre of postgraduate research activity, providing informed and tailored support and guidance to all prospective and current postgraduate research students. We also encourage and support interdisciplinary communications within the Faculty, through regular academic and social activities.
The University of Bath, in collaboration with partners, has secured funding from Research Councils for centres and partnerships, most of which are in science-related areas. These provide PhD students with bespoke courses that include taught and research elements, as well as the opportunity to interact with partner institutions, organisations or industry.
Bath is a great place to be a student. Our welcoming campus is safe and friendly, with outstanding arts facilities and a first-class sports complex. It provides a real feeling of community for those living, working and studying here.
The campus is located less than 2km from the World Heritage City of Bath - one of the most interesting, elegant and vibrant cities in the UK, home to several excellent museums and galleries, parks, numerous restaurants, cafés and pubs and a great range of shopping.
Frequent bus services link the campus, city and major student residential areas. Bath is not far from Bristol International Airport. By train, London is approximately 90 minutes and Bristol about 15 minutes away. You are always connected to your work, your home and your social life when studying.
