Summary

Our MSc in Physiotherapy (pre-registration) programme is a challenging but rewarding course and will enable you to gain skills in evidence-based practice, research, and continuous professional development practice. You will be taught by academic staff with extensive clinical experience and guest lecturers who are experienced clinicians at the forefront of their subjects.

Our programme uses a modern and innovative integrated blended learning approach, using technology to support face-to-face teaching, so you will only be in university a maximum of three days a week.

On this course you will focus on clinical skills and problem-based learning. These activities are further supported by, lectures, e-learning, practical sessions, tutorials, and online and face-to-face seminars as appropriate.

Why study this subject? This programme is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to become a highly competent registered physiotherapist, able to work compassionately and creatively with various patient groups.

As a graduate of this course you'll be eligible to apply to register as a physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council and as a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Why study at Buckinghamshire New University? We have a well-established range of healthcare and nursing programmes, and we work closely with NHS and Primary Care Trusts across Buckinghamshire and it's surrounding areas.

You'll primarily be on clinical placements throughout year two in various settings like an acute hospital, primary and community stations, and outpatient clinics. This wide range of placements will provide you with the experience and knowledge you need to propel you into a successful career as a physiotherapist.

All eligible Physiotherapy students can apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund of at least £5,000 a year.

What facilities can I use? You'll be taught in purpose-built facilities, including well-equipped simulation clinics and rehabilitation teaching rooms, alongside the opportunity to participate in an active learning observational placement.

How will I be taught and assessed? On this course you'll focus on clinical skills and problem-based learning. These activities are further supported by lectures, e-learning, practical sessions, tutorials, online and face-to-face seminars.

The blended learning programme and other learning activities experienced on the course will prepare you well for initial practice and will promote continued learning, enabling you to adapt to the opportunities you will face during your career journey.

Each module has at least two forms of assessments in the following formats:

  • objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE)

  • viva (oral examination)

  • oral presentations

  • written examinations

  • portfolios

  • clinical case studies.

These assessments will support the development of practical, clinical and communication skills that you'll need for success not only on this degree programme but for your lifelong learning.
