Summary
This course is designed to respond to the demands of a wide range of private and public organisations for qualified information technologists to advise on all stages of information systems design, development and use. The course prepares students for the intellectual, analytical and practical challenges of a career in information technology (IT). Graduates will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to specify, design and build, or select appropriate IT solutions within a range of professional contexts. Specialist pathways through the course are: business information systems; the learning society; software development; health informatics.

Entry requirements | An Honours degree at 2.2 or above, or an equivalent qualification from another country. Applications are welcome from students who have not studied information technology or computing at degree level. Applicants are required to have experience with digital media and use of computers, such as the production of reports and use of presentation software, as well as use of the web for research and information retrieval, but it is not necessary that they have experience of programming or database creation. Applicants will also need good communication skills and a high level of general analytical skills (the sort of analytical skills that you would expect to be demonstrated in professional, managerial roles). Applications will also be considered from applicants who have a degree classification lower than Honours 2.2, but are able to provide evidence that they are strongly motivated to study information technology. This evidence may be relevant work experience. Applicants should have 2 years of accredited study in higher education in addition to relevant professional work experience. In this case applicants should have held a responsible or professional role for a minimum of 2 years, or be a very experienced professional without the above qualifications. |
