Wherever you choose to live, once you've moved to Cardiff and settled into your postgraduate accommodation you'll be ready to find some super fun and budget friendly things to do in Cardiff.

So let's take a look at our top 10 things to do for postgrad students in Cardiff.

Check out Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle is a great place to visit, having a wide range of different eras represented from its medieval origins to its Victorian additions. There are plenty of festivals and gigs held in the grounds of the castle all year round as well.

Visit a museum

There are a whole bunch of award-winning museums in Cardiff, and a trip to St Fagans to see how the Neanderthals lived in Wales or a visit to the Cardiff Story Museum will give you an alternative perspective on Welsh history.

Bask in the sun at Bute Park

Right in the centre of Cardiff, next to the castle, you won't be able to avoid Bute Park. It’s a great place to relax in the sunshine when the weather lets you.

Cycle the Taff Trail

This cycle route can take you all the way from Cardiff Bay to Merthyr Tydfil – if you’re up to the challenge – and there are plenty of bicycle hire places if you don't have your own.

The Doctor Who Experience

Based on Cardiff Bay is the Doctor Who Experience, so a trip here is essential for all those postgraduate Doctor Who fans. Not only will you get to see Cardiff Bay – which is well worth the trip on its own – but you'll get to look around the largest collection of Doctor Who props, sets and costumes in the world!

Roam around Roath Park

Covering 130 acres and boasting a 30-acre pond, there is plenty to do in Roath Park. And unlike other city parks, this one features a glasshouse with a collection of whistling ducks, plants and terrapins.

Get sporty

Do you like your sport? Are you interested in rugby, football and/or ice hockey? If so you’re in luck! Cardiff is a rugby town and if you’re lucky, while you're living here the Welsh national rugby team could well be playing at Principality Stadium. If not, then fear not as there will be a chance to cheer for the Cardiff Blues rugby team as they have a stadium is right next door to Principality Stadium. You'll also have plenty of chances to cheer Cardiff City, the local football team, or the Cardiff Devils who are a well-known local ice hockey team.

Try your luck at bingo

Have you ever tried bingo? It’s great fun and there are plenty of options when it comes to bingo in Cardiff! Particularly popular with postgrads is the one held at The Depot, featuring dancing, music, prizes and regular street food events.

Take a trip down Chippy Lane

After a top night out you will eventually find yourself on Chippy Lane – or Caroline Street as it is officially known as – for your fast food fix!

Visit the Victorian arcades

Something that makes Cardiff a little bit special are the many Victorian Arcades that it is home to. Morgan Arcade, Royal Arcade and Castle Arcade are all beautifully maintained and feature super popular places to eat at too.
