|Department||School of Science|
An applied psychology Master's, aimed at those who wish to work in vocational or occupational rehabilitation, or pursue a career in research.
Consider the best evidence on how to make the workplace healthy and productive.
Apply research to real world issues and help people develop sustainable working lives.
Prepare for a psychology or health-related doctorate.
This applied Psychology Master's degree teaches the fundamentals of how to be a professional psychologist in a range of different contexts.
On the Work, Health and Wellbeing pathway, you'll cover theoretical and empirical research into the kinds of work and, more broadly, occupation, that are helpful, safe, and give meaning to our lives.
How can we maximise research into creativity and resilience? How can we use research to enable people to have sustainable working lives, even when they are living with challenging issues such as pain or stress? How can we measure pain, stress and work outcomes, focusing on personal health and work productivity?
The MSc Psychology in Practice aims to give you experience of the types of skills you need to flourish in clinic, as well as a more conceptual understanding of contemporary issues in applied psychology.
The course is designed to help with doctoral level applications, but we also offer an overview of grassroots community psychology to cover the types of NHS or third-sector employment students seek after graduation.
We aim to deepen your understanding of the challenges of the practising psychologist, and to make the next level of your career more accessible.

We are looking for people who are thinking of working in the clinical world, either as a professional psychologist or for a third-sector company. You must have an interest in theory building and reading new research. We are looking for a good pass in an undergraduate psychology course. This might be joint with another topic but some psychological research methods are needed. If you have clinical or applied psychological experience since your degree but didn’t attain an upper second, please contact the course leader.
