Summary

Our MA Film Production programme will help you develop practical and critical approaches to the relationship between production workflows, digital film technology, and creativity.

The course seeks to develop your creative abilities to a high professional standard, preparing you for employment in increasingly dynamic film and media sectors, and to facilitate film projects that foreground the importance of practice-based research, expertise and experimentation. Students can choose to refine a critical approach to creativity in areas such as writing, directing, and producing; or alternatively focus on creative technology in areas such as cinematography, editing, virtual production and sound.

The course aims to develop students’ critical and research abilities in the discipline of film production. Core skills include: filming using digital camera equipment, workflow scheduling, project management, film distribution / promotion via festivals and digital platforms, and practice-based research skills. Additional skills students can gain include: screenwriting, directing actors, cinematography, editing, sound design, and virtual production. The emphasis will be on the ways in which digital film production utilises all of these skills in combination, encouraging students to manage interrelated disciplines and skills in the pursuit of creative outcomes.
