This masters degree offers the opportunity for students to learn and apply contemporary theoretical principles and scientific methodologies that enhance strength and conditioning practice.

The programme is designed to build on the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) award and the UKSCA Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) award, to provide a necessary range of theoretical and practical experiences for a career as a strength and conditioning practitioner. The master’s degree programme offers a supportive, student-centred environment and ensures the highest quality research-informed teaching. In addition to world-class research facilities, the university boasts a recently renovated and dedicated strength and conditioning applied facility that can accommodate large groups of athletes simultaneously.

Module Descriptions

  • Physiological Determinants of Athletic Performance: Examine the physiological mechanisms that underpin successful strategies to enhance performance

  • Monitoring Training and Recovery Processes in Elite Sport: Develop the skills required to create and operate monitoring strategies in athletic populations - Coaching Science and Performance Delivery Explore the importance of coaching science to the strength and conditioning coach’s skill set

  • Work-based project: Engage in a project that addresses personal and professional goals

  • Independent project: Conduct an independent investigation into a chosen area of study to deepen knowledge and understanding

  • Coaching Science and Performance Delivery: Explore the importance of coaching science
