This sets our graduates apart and ensures they are highly sought after by employers.

About This Course

Engineering is the pursuit of solutions. Engineers are at the forefront of innovation and today’s engineers will define the next industrial revolution. We aim to equip you with the experience and intellectual flexibility you need to succeed throughout your studies and in your future career.

Our mission is to guide you in the principles and theories of energy engineering, while also ensuring you are confident in dealing with clients and working collaboratively. You’ll be equipped with all the soft skills needed to thrive throughout your course and in your professional life.

You’ll master fundamental energy and electrical engineering principles, alongside advanced and contemporary topics in renewable energy sources and energy conversion systems, low carbon technologies and conventional energy sources, including wind and wave, solar energy, nuclear energy, oil, and gas.

This MSc programme has been developed in collaboration with the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) and is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Energy Institute. The programme addresses a national and regional shortage of highly qualified energy engineering graduates. As a result, graduates of this course are in high demand, and many are already in key positions in the industrial energy sector.

This course offers constant opportunities to connect with practicing professional engineers in a variety of settings. You’ll be able to build your own network during modules, at trade events, at local branch meetings and on project work. Your most significant project – your dissertation – might be industry-based, industry-led or an academic research project. Ultimately, you’ll graduate with a deep understanding of the long-term goal of renewable energy alongside the broader reality of a sustainable energy mix.

The course is delivered by the School of Engineering within the Faculty of Science – which houses an impressive base of engineering knowledge, particularly in the Schools of Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Computing Sciences and Chemistry. We are internationally renowned for our research and teaching in many relevant fields, including Energy Engineering, Energy Materials, Geophysical Sciences, Applied Mathematics and Computer Systems Engineering to name a few. The option in Environmental Management takes advantage of our links with the world-renowned School of Environmental Sciences.
