|Department||Health, Psychology and Social Studies|
|Telephone||0845 606 1144|
You'll study in a small, supportive teaching and learning environment to develop your problem-solving and critical analysis skills, encouraging clinical reasoning to integrate theory into practice. A range of modules cover every aspect of occupational therapy, improving the level of service you can provide your clients.
With 1000 hours on placement in a variety of supportive practices, you'll easily be able to develop your assessment, treatment and evaluation skills. We can offer placements in hospitals (NHS and private), schools and health centres across North West England, Southern Scotland and the Isle of Man, giving you plenty of scope for where you wish to take your future career. We'll build your confidence and competence every step of the way, so allow us to get you started as a professional and fully registered occupational therapist.
|Level||RQF Level 7|
1st or 2nd class honours degree - to include GCSE in English Language at grade C or above.
We strongly recommend you visit an Occupational Therapy department or talk to at least one Occupational Therapist prior to interview, as you will be asked about your understanding of their role.
In addition to a degree, candidates should have a GCSE grade C or above in English Language. If you have an unrelated first degree, but have experience in occupational therapy, your application will be considered. Applicants unable to meet the formal academic entry requirements, but who hold another relevant professional qualification such as a diploma in physiotherapy, nursing, chiropody or podiatry are welcome to apply.
Candidates will need to show post-qualification academic performance, a range of continuing professional development (CPD), and relevant professional experience. We look for a clear understanding of the work of an occupational therapist, so it is useful if you have undertaken some work experience or shadowing. The programme is intensive and you need to be a committed, independent learner.
* If applicants don't have recent study within the last three years, they may still be considered if they have appropriate work/life experience.
Overseas students and language requirements
We welcome applications from overseas students. If English is not your first language we also require one of the following qualifications:
IELTS - an overall mark of 7 with no less than 6.5 in any one component. All places are offered subject to successful interview, as well as Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (DBS formerly CRB), medical fitness to practise and proof of qualifications.
Fitness to practise and health requirements
All offers of a place are subject to satisfactory health screening. Further information will be provided following the offer of a place.
In some instances, an applicant may be invited to attend a professional practice panel to discuss any recommended reasonable adjustments, and whether or not core professional competencies are achievable.
In order to be admitted and continue on the course, students must be deemed as medically fit for both practice and theory by the Occupational Health Department. If you have any concerns about a health condition/issue and its impact on your ability to undertake the course please contact the Occupational Health Department as early as possible in the application process.
