Wrexham Glyndŵr University has launched an MSc in Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing
Wrexham Glyndŵr University has launched a new MSc in Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, which is to be taught via blended learning from September 2020.
This innovative new postgraduate program has been designed to address health, mental health and wellbeing challenges facing communities across the UK, an issue which is particularly relevant in today’s continuing unprecedented and stressful times.
Dr Sharon Wheeler, senior lecturer in public health and wellbeing at Wrexham Glyndŵr University, explains, “We want this program to be accessible to a wide audience, including individuals working in health settings, schools, local authorities and more.”
She continues, “An advanced understanding of health, mental health and wellbeing is increasingly necessary in many workplaces. To offer real flexibility to those studying the program, we have developed an innovative blended-learning strategy, whereby students can self-select to learn online, in the classroom, or a combination of the two.”
The new MSc Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing is designed to challenge its students to consider how they can help individuals, groups, workplaces and nations to lead happier and healthier lives. Although the postgraduate program has been in development for a while, the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting mental health challenges that have emerged across the UK serve to make this course particularly relevant.
Dr Wheeler says, “The global pandemic we are experiencing has undoubtedly changed thinking towards public health, mental health and wellbeing. It has highlighted how human beings are extremely complex – and understanding how people think and act is crucial if we are to effectively protect and improve the health and wellbeing of the nation.”
The MSc in Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing at Wrexham Glyndŵr University has been designed to be studied flexibly, whereby students can choose whether they want to learn face-to-face at the university, online, or to do a combination of the two.
