University of Aberdeen is building a new home for its business school
The University of Aberdeen has lodged a planning application to build a new home for its business school with Aberdeen City Council.
This recent application – which includes illustrative examples of the proposed design – is part of the University of Aberdeen’s plans to regenerate its Old Aberdeen campus through a series of development projects worth almost £100 million.
The plans will see the University of Aberdeen Business School relocate from the MacRobert Building to a new single-site home on the site of Johnston Halls, the currently dormant building, which will undergo a major refurbishment.
Speaking about the proposed development, University of Aberdeen Vice-Principal Alan Speight, Convener of the Programme Board leading the project, explains, “The submission of our planning application is another step forward in our plans to revitalise our King’s College campus. The proposed design for the new Business School will deliver an exciting, modern building that regenerates underused space on our campus while remaining sympathetic to its existing surroundings.”
Professor Speight continues, “Earlier this month we launched our Aberdeen 2040 strategy which sets out our bold ambitions for the University’s future. Looking ahead to the next 20 years, it is crucial we remain equipped to meet the needs of modern students with contemporary, adaptable and technology-ready facilities. These transformational plans will ensure we continue to provide our students and staff with world class teaching and learning facilities that will attract the best and brightest to Aberdeen. It also supports wider city ambitions to enhance the appeal of our region as a destination of choice.”
The refurbishment will include a landmark new pavilion with accessible teaching and learning facilities that will include state-of-the-art lecture and seminar space. There will also be a central foyer for exhibition and public engagement activities, as well we landscaping to create an outside space where students and staff can socialise and relax.
