University College Dublin is The Sunday Times University of the Year 2020
The Sunday Times Good University Guide has named University College Dublin (UCD) the University of the Year in its recent rankings.
This is the third time that UCD has been awarded this prestigious title and President of University College Dublin, Professor Andrew Deeks, was delighted to hear the news. He enthuses, “We are very happy to be University of the Year because it comes after a period of hard work. It’s a great honour and it’s a credit to everyone at UCD.”
Professor Deeks continues, “It is a confirmation of what we’ve seen through our strategic planning process, in terms of the progress that the university has made over the last five years.”
Describing UCD, the Editor of The Sunday Times Good University Guide, Alastair McCall, says, “University College Dublin makes a compelling case to third level applicants with its relentless focus on the student experience. Heavy investment in facilities such as the newly-opened UCD Moore Centre for Business and the soon-to-open student village catch the eye, but it is the work behind the scenes to improve student life – particularly pastoral care – that is just as important in such a large university.”
Student satisfaction and student engagement are both of paramount importance to the Sunday Times rankings – and within this category UCD ranked above all other universities in Ireland. UCD’s high levels of student satisfaction have been achieved in a variety of ways, including a peer mentoring program, on-site cookery classes and yoga sessions, as well as giving all students access to online cognitive behavioural therapy for stress, anxiety and depression. According to the latest Sunday Times Good University Guide research UCD also offers students the second-best student-to-staff ratio in the university sector and has a graduate unemployment rate of just 3%.
