Northampton postgraduate undertakes globally influential research
Accounting and Finance postgraduate at the University of Northampton, Patrick Yeboah, is hoping that his PhD research scholarship will influence the corporate structure of companies worldwide.
Patrick was recently awarded the John Lowe Scholarship from the University of Northampton, this is a three year fully-funded PhD research project based in Northamptonshire.
His project will analyse how businesses operating in the county and internationally, trading on the London Stock Exchange, can re-structure their board to incorporate sustainability issues into their strategy and business models.
On receiving the scholarship, Patrick, 31 from Ghana, said: “I saw the John Lowe scholarship as an opportunity for me as an international student to enable me to reach my dream of progressing into advance knowledge by pursuing PhD research in Accounting& Finance. This research can benefit businesses in Northamptonshire and internationally to realise that the composition of the board in every organisation is an important determinant for financial reporting. An effective structure of the board is vital – it can restore the confidence of investors, shareholders and the public about the credibility and reliability of the financial reporting.”
Patrick started his journey in higher education in Ghana at Kumasi Polytechnic, where he was awarded a HND in Entrepreneurship and Finance. In 2015, he received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Coast. He has been living in Northampton for the past two years whilst studying his postgraduate degree at the University of Northampton, feels his decision to do his postgraduate studies and PhD at the University has been fully justified.
Patrick explains, “I decided to further continue my PhD education at the University of Northampton because of dedicated and friendly tutors, research and library facilities, ultra-modern building and conducive environment which support 21st century teaching and learning.”
