Dundee and Al-Maktoum collaborate on new masters course in Islamic Finance
Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education have formed a partnership with the University of Dundee to launch three unique Masters programs in Islamic Finance – Islamic Banking and Finance; and Islamic Banking, Finance and International Business. These postgraduate courses are starting in September 2019 and are open to graduates from finance and non-finance backgrounds.
According to the Acting Head of Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education, Dr Abi Abubaker, these programs are key to the College’s future plans and confirmed its important role as a leading centre of learning in Islamic finance and Islamic studies, generally. He says, “This is a significant step for us and we look forward to bringing students to the city to undertake these three programs for the first time.” Dr Abubaker continues, “The College has been working hard to achieve this over the last few years and are very pleased this collaborative effort is now set to get under way.”
Currently, there are very few universities in the UK offering Islamic Finance at degree level. University of Dundee with the support from the College, looks to be the first in Scotland to succeed in offering the subject at MSc level.
The Program Director at the University of Dundee, Professor Bill Russell, adds, “The decision for University of Dundee and Al-Maktoum College to enter in to partnership over the new MSc programs was an obvious one. Our strength in conventional finance and international business, combined with Al-Maktoum College’s Islamic finance and political economics expertise makes for three comprehensive, theoretical and applied MSc degrees.”
All three programs are designed for students who have completed an undergraduate degree and are now looking to specialise their studies within the financial sector.
