When people start working in film and television, very few consider a career as a script supervisor. Most people haven't even heard of the role and many people working on set have no idea what the job entails. They may see someone sitting with the director, furiously taking notes, being at the heart of those creative discussions and wonder what they are doing. Well, that is the script supervisor, the editor's eyes on set, a technical and creative role, overseeing onset continuity, advising on film grammar, working with talent and keeping extensive notes of the whole project to make sure we avoid those costly errors.
This course will give you the tools and confidence to begin your career as a script supervisor and become an indispensable member of any crew.
In this course, you will learn what a script supervisor does and why they are invaluable to a production. You will learn about pre-production, creating breakdowns and timing scripts. You will learn to think like a director and how to support their vision. Understand film grammar, the 180-degree rule and when continuity matters. You will learn what information the editor wants and how to work with actors. You will learn note-taking and tracking continuity. You will also learn how to write production reports, negotiate your deal and survive in the industry.
