Summary

On our MSc Mental Health and Wellbeing in Practice course, you’ll cover key theories and principles to equip you with the knowledge, skills and practical experience for a career in mental health and wellbeing.

This programme combines both hands-on practice through a work-integrated learning placement with the theoretical foundations and fundamentals of clinical psychology and psychiatry in understanding mental health and wellbeing in different areas ranging from children and young people and elderly individuals with recognition of intersections, diversity and culture.

During the programme, you’ll cover modules which develop your knowledge and skills for therapeutic practice in working with individuals, in addition to areas of mental health and wellbeing which addresses the theoretical nature of disciplines such as psychiatry to understand how mental health and wellbeing is conceptualised in practice, popular media and culture, and more.

  • Work-integrated learning - We offer you a 40-hour work-integrated learning opportunity or live project across a variety of sectors including charities and the private sector/industry where you will apply your knowledge and skills to solving real-world problems.

  • Enhanced student support - We strongly believe in enhancing student wellbeing. Each student has a Personal Tutor and the Programme Support Tutors work closely with students throughout the course.

  • Research active department - The School of Psychology is home to Child, Adolescent and Parent Mental Health: Understanding Developmental Mechanisms, Human Adaptation in Stressful Environments (HASTE), Changing Behaviour, Health and Well-being, and Translational Neuroscience.

  • Outstanding facilities - You’ll have access to our specialist facilities for psychology demonstration and practice, which includes EEG and fNIRS for brain imaging, and TMS and tDCS for non-invasive brain stimulation.
