This programme provides specialist study for graduates intending to work in research and development environments in a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines. You'll develop your ability to apply engineering principles and develop commitment to quality practice. An expert in your chosen field will guide your research programme and you'll become part of our thriving academic community.
The School of Engineering has a strong culture of research and enterprise. Research Excellence Framework (REF) awarded 80% of LSBU's research into General Engineering the two highest quality ratings (4 or 3) for 'impact' (research and significance).

Advantages of an MRes An MRes is distinct from a taught Masters in that your final output will be an extended dissertation or creative project relevant to your field of interest, rather than module-based coursework and exams.
You can complete an MRes in one year or part-time over two years, as opposed to a full PhD which can take up to five years. The MRes project can be focused toward a work-based project.

| Entry requirements | Applicants for a Research Degree programme at LSBU are usually expected to have a good honours degree (2:2 and above) and a relevant postgraduate qualification, preferably a merit at Master's level. Please also supply two academic references as part of your application. You will also be required to show proof of all of your qualifications. If English is not your first language you will be required to prove your competency in English, showing an IELTS score of at least 6.0 at postgraduate level. Prior to an offer being made, you will be invited to an interview with your potential supervisor, in person or by telephone. |

Income is generated from a wide range of sources including the research councils, European Union, industry, Government, charities, consultancy and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships where the School is one of the leaders nationally. Our research is to a very large degree interdisciplinary and collaborative with strong national and international links.
