Summary

If you’re passionate about inspiring learners beyond school and want to build a rewarding career in the further education and lifelong learning sector, a PGCE Further Education from Canterbury Christ Church University will give you the qualifications, confidence, and professional skills you need to succeed.

This postgraduate programme is designed for those who want to teach young people and adults in settings such as further education colleges, sixth forms, community learning centres, work-based training, and prison education. Taught by expert educators and grounded in evidence-based practice, the course emphasises social justice, inclusion, and transformative teaching.

What you’ll learn - Develop advanced pedagogical skills to teach across the post-16 sector.

  • Enhance your understanding of inclusive, evidence-based teaching practice.

  • Apply creative and innovative strategies to engage and support diverse learners.

  • Become a confident communicator who can work collaboratively and professionally with both your students and fellow staff members.

  • Foster a reflective and critically informed practice that will positively impact pupils' learning.

You can choose a one-year full-time route at our Canterbury Campus or a flexible two-year part-time route at our partner college in London. Throughout the course, you’ll benefit from diverse placement opportunities that help you apply theory to practice and develop your specialist subject expertise.

On successful completion, you’ll achieve a recognised teaching qualification and meet one of the key eligibility criteria to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status through the Society for Education and Training (SET).
