Tips for Getting Exercise Into Your Daily Postgrad Routine

Let's face it, who doesn't want to get fit?

But good intentions only get you so far. I mean come on how many times have you heard postgraduate students raving about wanting to sign up with the gym? In reality they never do.

Try these simple ideas to help you get in shape with no added effort...

Take the Stairs It is probably something you have heard a million times before, but the reason that so many people go on about it is that it actually does make a difference. If you opt for the stairs instead of the lift each time you enter your building or whilst at uni, you will burn a surprising amount of calories without it affecting your day much at all. It sure beats paying to go to the gym and use a step machine doesn't it?

Walk Wherever Possible If you usually take a bus or train to university but it is close enough to walk then ditch the public transport and use your legs. Obviously you don’t have to be die hard about it and walk to lectures in the pouring rain, but if the rain has held off, put your walking shoes on and get some fresh air! Even just a 20 minute walk to and from uni every day will make a huge difference to your fitness levels over the course of a term. Another plus point is that you will be saving money as you get fit.

Get Up and Active Whilst Watching TV Why not inject some life and energy into your evening in? Who'd have thought it was so easy to turn a lazy night in front of the box into a fun-filled fitness booster . Simply get up from your seat every time the adverts are on and have a 3-minute burst of energy. Run up and down the stairs, do press-ups, sit-ups, squat thrusts, or even doing a bit of crazy dancing. This way you can catch up with your favourite programs whilst finessing a super hot bod!

Catch Up and Have a Stroll Do you ever get the feeling that you spend too much time sat on your backside during the week? Most of the time these things can’t be avoided as you are sat down studying, in lectures, on the bus and wherever else is you get up to, but what can be avoided is sitting on your butt when spending time up with friends. Why not catch some fresh air, stretch your legs, and give your gluts some well deserved rest. Did you know a simple stroll in the local park or to the shops can really help to boost your cardiovascular health?

Stop Texting and Skyping People in the Room Next Door When you say it out loud it actually makes you realise how incredibly lazy it is, but we are all guilty of messaging someone who is only one flight of stairs away because we simply cannot be bothered to go and see them in person! Slap yourself on the wrist and get out of this habit right now, as it is the ultimate sign of laziness. If you need to speak to someone simply get up and stretch your legs a little and burn a few calories in the process.

How do you go about getting exercise into your daily postgraduate routine?
