Top Eco Friendly Universities in the UK
Are you the kind of student that takes into account a university's green credentials when choosing where you want to study? If you're passionate about the planet check out these five top eco friendly universities in the UK .
University of Greenwich
Boasting the title of 'greenest' university in the UK, Greenwich has strived hard to achieve the number one spot. But what is it exactly that makes this university so green? Apart from its positive attitude towards waste management, sustainable food and energy use, the University of Greenwich also won bonus points due to the institution's plans for eco-friendly future projects and their transition towards a low carbon future.
University of Plymouth
Hot on the heels of Greenwich, the University of Plymouth has also been doing its bit to benefit the environment. From their Eco House which provides hands on experiential learning opportunities such as green renovation, alternative energy sources and sustainable design, to their Eco Learning Gardens which acts as a centre for adults and kids alike to work together in efforts to embrace sustainability and reconnect with nature.
University of Brighton
Not far behind Plymouth in the race for the eco-friendly crown, the University of Brighton is working hard to create actionable green initiatives across each individual campus - and that's just the beginning! Defining sustainability as one of their core values, Brighton is also hoping to become a centre of excellence with regards to building sustainability into research, teaching, learning and work.
University of West Wales Institute Cardiff
Rated as the most environmentally friendly university in Wales, UWIC has come on leaps and bounds in recent years thanks to its improved ethical and environmental performance. By addressing sustainability in a systematic way, UWIC has made huge improvements to reduce carbon emissions and develop ecological agendas that continue to be implemented.
University of Gloucestershire
Constantly exploring alternative approaches to develop a sustainable community, the University of Gloucestershire is all for going green. From offering education in sustainable development to top tips on how to save money and easy ways to become a more eco-friendly student, their focus is on moving towards an ecological system that benefits everyone, including Mother Nature!
University of the West of England
Whether it's celebrating the small steps that students and staff take to reduce their environmental impacts, working with the University Catering Staff to design an eco friendly menu, or the building of a shared Eco Garden, the University of the West of England are actively encouraging, rewarding, and celebrating the efforts made by its consciously aware community.
