Studying in Europe Will Give You a Competitive Edge

With rising tuition fees and a high cost of living in the UK, studying for a postgraduate degree can be an extremely costly affair, and this leads to many students not being able to afford to further their education as they would wish. If this sounds familiar to you, and you are wondering how to make the numbers work in your favour, maybe it is time to look abroad for your university enrolment. As well as the extremely low course costs, studying abroad will give you a competitive edge when applying for jobs. But do bear in mind that studying in the UK is not necessarily as expensive as you may think and there are plenty of funding opportunities available.

Taking Advantage of Low Course Costs

Many European countries such as France and the Netherlands offer heavily subsidized higher education courses, with course fees a fraction of what they are in the UK, and others countries including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Finland and some parts of Germany offer them absolutely free to their citizens. UK students are able to take full advantage of the incredibly low tuition fees by enrolling in courses abroad instead of in Britain , yet only around 2,000 students are currently doing so.

The benefits of studying abroad are not just financial ones, as it can prove to be a real booster for your CV. Numerous studies have shown that employers really value employees with a global perspective and cultural dexterity, which means that getting your master’s degree on the continent could prove to be a huge plus for your future job prospects. European universities are in the final stages of a process to ensure that all qualifications are worth the same in each country, and are internationally recognized across the world, so you do not have to worry about the degree being worth less than one from a UK university.

Stand Out from the Crowd

In an increasingly globalised employment market, taking the initiative to leave your comfort zone and head abroad to study for your master’s will definitely give you the edge when it comes to applying for jobs. Apart from the cultural experience, it shows that you are adaptable and are able to overcome the language barrier in your chosen country. Postgraduate qualifications are becoming increasingly common, meaning that competition for highly paid jobs is fierce, and this is why having a CV that stands out is particularly important. Although learning the native language of your desired country is preferable, you do not have to be fluent in a foreign language to enrol on a course as there are hundreds of master’s courses across the continent that are taught in 100% English, making the whole experience much less scary.
