Two months into my Chevening journey...
Tuwilika Nafuka is a Chevening Scholar from Namibia, and is currently studying an MSc in Digital Health Systems at the University of Strathclyde. Here she describes her postgraduate experience since starting her course in September.
“It has been just over two months since I moved to the United Kingdom for my postgraduate studies and what an incredible journey it has been so far.
Every day still feels new and full of possibility. I often find myself pausing in gratitude for this opportunity to pursue an MSc in Digital Health Systems at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. It feels surreal at times, but also deeply affirming, I know I made the right decision in applying for Chevening.
My experience so far has been a meaningful balance of academic challenge and cultural exploration. Academically, I have been both inspired and stretched. The accessibility of learning resources here is remarkable, everything is digital, interactive, and designed to make the learning process more engaging and inclusive. As someone passionate about digital health, it has been fascinating to see technology so seamlessly integrated into education itself.
The coursework can be dense and demanding, but that reflects the nature of the field. Digital health is evolving rapidly, and each lecture and group discussion pushes me to think critically about how technology can improve healthcare delivery, particularly in contexts like Namibia and across Africa.
As a Chevening Scholar, I am part of a truly global community of excellence. The network of driven, passionate individuals I’ve met continues to inspire me every day. We come from different backgrounds but share one purpose: to create meaningful impact in our home countries. These connections have already begun to shape how I see collaboration and leadership.
The UK itself is remarkably cosmopolitan. Studying here means joining thousands of international students from countries far beyond what you might initially expect. It’s made me reflect on the UK’s unique ability to bring people together, a soft power rooted in education, diversity and shared values. Being part of such an inclusive and multicultural community has been a learning experience in itself, broadening my world view and deepening my appreciation for global co-operation.
Beyond the classroom, I’ve been exploring the UK and loving every moment. There’s so much to see and learn beyond Glasgow. I’ve already visited London as well as many corners of this vibrant city, and surprisingly, I’m enjoying the weather too! Coming from Namibia, it’s been a refreshing change. I plan to visit every major UK city before the year ends – this one year is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn, explore and grow.
Living in Glasgow has been transformative. The city has a warmth and creativity that makes it feel like home. From local cafés and cultural festivals to spontaneous conversations with classmates, I’ve found beauty in both the big and small moments of this journey.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned so far, it’s that the Chevening experience is exactly what you make of it. The scholarship provides a powerful platform, but it’s up to each of us to build upon it academically, professionally and personally.
To anyone considering applying for Chevening, my message is simple: go for it. It’s more than a scholarship, it’s an invitation to grow, to lead, and to see the world through new eyes. It will challenge you, inspire you and change you in ways you never expected."
