Fine art research areas: Book illustration; drawing; painting; photography; printmaking. We offer a stimulating environment for postgraduate study and research in both fine art and art history. We are committed to art as an intellectual pursuit and a professional discipline; one which requires training, skill and practice as well as individual creativity. Students are chosen for their appropriateness to the professional and research interest of staff, and much of the tuition is by means of regular individual tutorials. Students are assigned to a supervisor and a particular area of study in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Book Illustration, Photography or Art History.

Summary
Your personal development as an artist is key to Masters training at Aberystwyth. At the School of Art, you will be encouraged to experiment technically and conceptually, test assumptions and push boundaries as you produce a significant body of work in preparation for two public exhibitions in our galleries.
Guest curators, visiting artists and alumni enrich our research environment and introduce you to a wide range of career possibilities by sharing their experience and expertise with you. Exhibition openings and visiting days provide volunteer opportunities and paid ambassador roles. School of Art gallery events also give you a chance to interact with the public and make professional contacts in the art world.
The Fine Art course is designed to develop your skills in your chosen media, which include painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, book illustration, experimental film/video, sound art, installation and site-specific performance.
Our degree encourages the rethinking of traditional skills in the context of contemporary, conceptual practices. Weekly life drawing classes are held in the school and can be attended by MA students by arrangement with the lecturer. Students have access to dedicated work spaces, computing facilities, studios and workshops.
The course enables you to develop and sustain a self-initiated programme that demonstrates a creative interpretation of a chosen subject, along with technical expertise and a thorough knowledge of appropriate conceptual, theoretical and historical frameworks.
Your art practice will be informed by our 'Artworld' module, which aims to develop your understanding of the contemporary art world and help you to situate your practice within socioeconomic, political and institutional contexts.
