Aberystwyth University
Learn and live in an exceptional environment.
The Town and University
Established in 1872, Aberystwyth University was the first University Institution in Wales and has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research.
Aberystwyth is a medium sized, scenic coastal town situated in one of the most beautiful and safest parts of the UK. You’ll benefit from easy access to the seafront and beaches, rolling green mountains, a vibrant social and cultural life, and an excellent education. The University campus is compact, friendly, and has a thriving cosmopolitan postgraduate community. It is a bustling centre of activity with a range of sports, groups and societies, music, a thriving café culture and plenty of academic and research seminars going on. We offer guaranteed accommodation, with many exclusive postgraduate residences.
In the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, 95% of the research activity submitted by Aberystwyth University was of an internationally recognised standard or higher, with world leading research (4*) identified in all 17 of the Units of Assessment submitted.
Next door to the campus we are extremely fortunate to have the National Library of Wales, which is one of the five great copyright libraries in the UK, and an invaluable resource for our students. The University’s reputation for its research is also greatly assisted by the location in the town of a number of other national research facilities and organisations including the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, the British Geological Survey, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, and the Aberystwyth Science Park.
