The global sports market is expected to reach £490 billion by 2028 according to Research and Markets, and the American Psychological Association says this growth is matched by increasing demand for Sport Psychologists.
The mental side of athletic performance is as vital as the physical side, and Sport and Exercise Psychologists can help individuals and teams gain a competitive edge.
Our Sports Psychology course is one of the few in Scotland accredited by the British Psychological Society. Your studies will include:
the latest theory in Sport Psychology – and how to apply it; how to promote positive mental health among athletes; case studies and statistical analysis to deepen your expertise. Practical experience This course also includes a placement that will give you a chance to put your knowledge into practice. As Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, Stirling is among the best places in the UK to study sport. Your placement will give you a chance to apply your learnings with a wide range of partner organisations, including Cycling Ireland, Scottish Racing Academy, University of Stirling Tennis Programme, Queens Park Football Club and many others.

| Entry requirements | A minimum of a 2nd Class Honours degree (2.1 preferred) or equivalent. Applicants without these formal qualifications but with significant appropriate/relevant work/life experience are encouraged to apply. If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of your proficiency such as a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (5.5 in all bands). If you don’t meet the required score you may be able to register for one of our pre-sessional English courses. To register you must hold a conditional offer for your course and have an IELTS score 0.5 or 1.0 below the required standard. |

Summary
We offer the only sports psychology Masters in Scotland that’s accredited by the British Psychological Society. Our interdisciplinary course is designed to meet the current needs of this growing industry and prepare you for a range of rewarding jobs.
You’ll develop a critical understanding of contemporary sports psychology theory and research that you can draw on to facilitate better performances by individuals and teams. You’ll graduate with a broad knowledge of the field, as well as clear insights into the areas that interest you most. You’ll also benefit from the presence of elite-level athletes and sports agencies based right here on the University campus.
Our expert teaching staff includes Chartered Psychologists, registered Sport and Exercise Psychologists and practitioners and supervisors accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences. All of their knowledge and research has been incorporated into this Masters course, so you can be confident you’ll leave Stirling with the best possible preparation for a career in sports psychology.
