MRes Advanced Materials and Manufacturing is a multidisciplinary research training programme focusing on advanced materials development and additive manufacturing processes, design and application. Combining rigorous training in advanced research skills with personalised research projects that build deep subject knowledge, this exciting postgraduate programme is designed to inspire your imagination, foster your creativity and support your journey toward innovative solutions in the field.
The University of Greater Manchester's Master's by Research (MRes) in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing is a multidisciplinary research training programme designed to be truly novel. It is designed to inspire the imagination and foster creativity while providing rigorous training in advanced research skills and deep subject knowledge.
The programme is delivered through a staged and flexible approach, enabling you to develop research skills in preparation for a PhD or Professional Doctorate. You will have opportunities to undertake applied research projects involving knowledge exchange.
The MRes programme will provide a common foundation for PhD or Professional Doctorate programmes with an interim award available following the gaining of 60 credits (PgCert), and an exit award of the 180 credit MRes.
This MRes in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing provides specialist training in cutting-edge materials technologies. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of fire-retardant materials, advanced composites, and additive manufacturing (AM) in both metals and polymers. Delivered by University researchers, the course combines taught modules with hands-on research in the university’s state-of-the-art additive manufacturing and materials laboratories, including specialised fire-retardancy testing. Through individual research projects, students will explore novel materials processing techniques, performance evaluation, and application development, preparing them for careers in high-performance manufacturing, materials innovation, and further academic research.
