In December 2024, the University of Bolton was granted permission by the Office for Students (OfS) to change its name to the University of Greater Manchester with immediate effect. While we work to update our systems, you may see both names used in the information we provide.

The MRes Computing is a full-time research degree. Combining rigorous training in advanced research skills with personalised research projects that build deep subject knowledge in Computer Science research and applications in various domains. This exciting postgraduate research programme is designed to equip you with the requisite skills and knowledge in Computer Science applications and research.

The University of Greater Manchester's Masters by Research degree in Computing is a multidisciplinary research training programme which has been designed to be research-focused with industry collaboration. This course fosters a culture of academic rigour, research output and productivity, research skills and a focus on applications of Computer Science to both private and public sector.

The programme is delivered through a staged and flexible approach enabling you to develop research skills as preparation for a PhD or Professional Doctorate. Opportunities will be available for students to undertake applied research projects involving knowledge exchange.

The MRes programme will provide a common foundation for PhD or Professional Doctorate programmes with interim award available following the gaining of 60 credits (PgCert), and an exit award of the 180 credit MRes.
