Summary

The MSc Human Resource Management is an intensive master's-level specialist programme for graduates who have a prior qualification in social sciences and wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the practice, theory and policy of the world of work.

This 12-month full-time programme will appeal to students who want to develop an understanding of the key global challenges facing Human Resource Management today. These challenges include, but are not limited to:

  • The role new technologies are having on the workplace including the management of flexible working practices, or how algorithmic management is shaping working conditions.

  • Social inequalities such as gender impacting career opportunities and outcomes.

  • The presence of exploitative working practices.

  • Climate change and the need for sustainable working practices and careers.

The programme will not only explore issues such as the above, but it will also focus on solutions through management practice and alternative forms of organisation.

We aim to develop analytical and confident critical thinkers through research-led teaching. You will gain insight into the nature of Human Resource Management and the complexity of organisations from a variety of disciplines.

You will be part of a dynamic and diverse body of staff and students in Bristol and will be taught by experienced academics. 88% of our Business and Management research is rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021), reflecting its impact on shaping policy and practice. Staff in the school are engaged in conducting pioneering research that is shaping policy and practice in the UK, Europe and globally.

Teaching for this postgraduate programme will be delivered at our new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, opening 2026. Here, enhanced links with industry and collaborative learning spaces will provide students with real-world knowledge, networks and skills to succeed once you graduate. Depending on your choice of optional units, you may also be taught on the Clifton Campus.
