Summary
The MA (Ed) in Mentoring, Leading and Global Learning makes an important new contribution to the professional development of educators. With a focus on the skills of mentoring and coaching, the degree offers students the chance to widen their professional competencies. Framed within global debates about learning, the module content gives students the opportunity to understand the challenges and opportunities associated with responding to the Sustainable Development Goals concerning education. It is a part-time online degree, taken over three years.
In Year One, students take three 10-credit modules. Typically, the modules in Year One introduce students to academic writing and scholarship, the theory and practice of mentoring, and the study of the Sustainable Development Goals and education. In Year Two, students take three 10-credit modules. These modules typically address areas including coaching for leadership and learning, the study of childhood and learning, research training, and methodologies for undertaking school-based/field-based research. In Year Three, students undertake a 30-credit field-based study, written in the format of a dissertation. Other modules may be offered from time to time, that complement the design of the programme.
This Master’s degree will benefit teachers, school leaders/principals/headteachers, and anyone involved in education today. It will widen their understanding of global issues in education, and approaches towards providing equal education opportunities. It will introduce learners to the theory and practice of mentoring for leadership, and develop skills for coaching in education settings.
