Organisations face a growing threat of cyber attacks that seek to compromise their function, steal their data and interrupt their services. Cyber security is concerned with protecting networks, devices and data through the use of technology and the application of processes, tools and frameworks. There is a growing demand for graduates with knowledge and skills in cyber security who can help organisations tackle cybercrime.

Solent’s MSc Cyber Security course will prepare you for pursuing a career in cyber security. This is a dynamic conversion course open to students from any academic background and is designed to launch your career in the high-demand and well-rewarded field of cyber security. You'll build a strong foundation in cyber security while gaining hands-on experience in Python programming, penetration testing, network security, cyber governance, threat intelligence, incident response, and ethical hacking.

With expert-led teaching and access to industry standard tools and labs, you'll develop both technical and strategic skills. The course curriculum is developed with input from a variety of sources, including an industrial liaison panel, to ensure students are studying the latest technology and working practices employed by industry experts.

To aid study, you’ll have full access to the University’s cyber and networking labs equipped with industry-standard hardware and software tools from Cisco and other vendors. These include Cisco ASA Firepower devices; next generation integrated service routers, including the SNORT IPS engine and Splunk solutions; state-of-the-art network simulators (such as Cisco Packet Tracer, the Cisco Modelling Labs, and GNS3); Metasploit; and a range of iLabs from EC-Council. You will also have access to a range of virtual machines such as Windows server, Ubuntu, CentOS, Security Onion, and the CyberOPs VM.

The course also provides you with the option to take a paid work-placement in industry for up to six months after completing the taught modules and the dissertation. This would give you the valuable practical experience and confidence of working in the industry, which would boost your CV and help you to secure jobs in this.

This course is for: This conversion master's course is specifically designed for those who want to learn practical skills in cyber security to protect computer networks, data and infrastructure from cyber attacks. The course does not require any prior technical knowledge, so is also suitable for applicants who do not have any computer science or engineering background and wish to either start a new career in cyber security or enrich their own area with cyber security skills.
