Record-breaking number of student visas issued in the UK
Despite the global pandemic and the issues that have arisen as a result of Brexit – education-related and otherwise – the Home Office has revealed that almost 430,000 student visas have been issued in 2021.
This year has seen the British immigration service issue more student visas than ever before, with the Home Office explaining, “from 2017 until the pandemic, there has been a strong annual increase in the number of student visas, with an average increase of + 10% per year over the period.”
Around 135,000 of these student visas have been issued to Chinese students, which demonstrates a 13% increase from September 2019. And when it comes to European students choosing to study in the UK, recent figures concerning this year’s enrolments reveal that French students have obtained the highest number of scholarships at 3,872, followed by German students with 3,500 and 3,183 Spanish students*.
