New Professional Legal Practice LLM available at Swansea University
Swansea University is offering a new LLM in Professional Legal Practice to students from September 2022.
This new LLM program has been designed and introduced to align with the requirements of the new SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination) route to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales. The SQE was introduced in England and Wales in September 2021 and includes two stages of centrally assessed examinations and a period of qualifying work experience.
The LLM Professional Legal Practice combines core knowledge and practical legal skills to provide essential preparation for law graduates and enhance employability prospects. It also gives students the chance to gain a masters award, further legal knowledge and prepare for life in legal practice, as well as ensuring they are fully prepared for the SQE assessments and a career as a solicitor.
This new LLM will cover various topics, and these are likely to include:
- Business Law & Practice
- Dispute Resolution
- Criminal Practice
- Property Practice
- Wills & Administration of Estates
- Professional Practice and Legal Services (including Professional Conduct & Solicitors Accounts)
- Interviewing and Advocacy
- Matter Analysis and Writing
- Legal Research & Drafting
- Independent Research & Drafting
The LLM Professional Legal Practice can be taken full time over one academic year or part time over two years. It is broken down into two stages – core knowledge and practical legal skills. At the end of the LLM there is the opportunity for the students to undertake directed independent learning, focusing on practical legal research and drafting.
Please note, the SQE assessments do not form part of this LLM and the cost of undertaking the SQE assessments is not included in the tuition fees.
