NFTS student film selected for Cannes 2025
Earlier this year, Ether, a National Film and Television School student-made short film, had its world premiere at the 28th edition of La Cinéf at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Chosen from among 2,700 submitted by film schools all over the world, this year’s selection of Ether continues an extraordinary legacy for the NFTS, marking the fifth year in a row that one of their student films has been featured at La Cinéf. This film also marks a historic first for the NFTS, as it is the first time a film created by first-year students has been selected for a world premiere at La Cinéf.
Ether was created by NFTS students just a few months into their training, with director Vida Skerk, producer Dora Galosi, and screenwriter Niky Pasolini collaborating to develop the script and begin pre-production. These students are now in their final year at the NFTS, with the success of this film representing a significant milestone for the team of international filmmakers and crew.
The 2025 Cannes Film Festival also featured several NFTS alumni in major roles behind the camera including director/co-writer Joachim Trier with his second prize winner Sentimental Value, edited by fellow graduate Olivier Bugge Coutté, starring Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, and Elle Fanning.
