Summary

This UKCP-accredited master’s degree combines integrative psychotherapy principles with Transactional Analysis (TA), offering a comprehensive and relational approach to understanding human behaviour, communication, and change. The programme provides students with a solid grounding in TA theory and practice within an integrative and humanistic framework, preparing them for clinical practice as professional psychotherapists.

Drawing on both the psychodynamic roots and humanistic philosophy of TA, the course emphasises autonomy, spontaneity, awareness, and relational contracting as central components of effective therapeutic work. Students are encouraged to integrate TA concepts with wider psychological and psychotherapeutic perspectives, fostering flexibility, creativity, and depth in clinical practice.

Course philosophy The programme is grounded in the humanistic values that underpin TA, supporting students to develop both professionally and personally through experiential learning, reflective practice, and relational engagement. It views psychotherapy as a collaborative process rooted in awareness, authenticity, and mutual respect, promoting the client’s capacity for growth and autonomy.

Teaching and learning Teaching is delivered through weekend intensives that combine experiential group learning, theory-based seminars, and clinical workshops. The blended format allows students to engage both in person and online, balancing academic study with professional and personal development.

Assessment Students are assessed through a range of methods, including multimedia portfolios, written assignments, presentations, skills observations, professional conversations, case studies, clinical supervision reports, and a final research project.

Clinical placement Supervised clinical practice forms a central component of the programme. Students undertake placements in approved settings and are supported through supervision, case study work, and reflective journals to ensure integration of theory and practice.

Career pathways Graduates are eligible to register with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) as integrative psychotherapists and may pursue professional practice in private, organisational, or clinical settings. The qualification also provides a strong foundation for further research, teaching, or advanced clinical training.

Programme delivery This part-time programme is studied over three years and delivered through weekend intensives in a blended format, combining in-person and online learning. The intake begins in September each year.
