A Little Bit About Arts University Plymouth
As an MA student at Arts University Plymouth you will join our Postgraduate Centre, an active, cross-disciplinary community of makers and thinkers.
Founded in 1856, the institution has been granted full university status and is formally recognised as Arts University Plymouth following approval by the Privy Council, becoming the city of Plymouth’s specialist arts university. Arts University Plymouth is a specialist arts university offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in art and design, and media.
Students benefit from industry standard workshops and studios and state-of-the-art equipment for Painting, Glass, Printmaking, Photography, Craft & Material Practices, Jewellery, Textile Design, Museum Studies, Immersive Media and more.
The university is proud of its commitment to both traditional and digital art courses, with an £8 million specialist art, craft and digital design centre providing students with cutting-edge ceramics, glass and digital design workshops. The facility also offers further specialist equipment in Fab Lab Plymouth, including 3D printing and laser cutting.
The Postgraduate Centre, Studio 44
The Postgraduate Centre is a dynamic, cross-disciplinary community of makers and thinkers, which welcomes recent graduates as well as established practitioners who are already active in their specialist fields.
Postgraduate study at Arts University Plymouth takes place in a stimulating intellectual environment with strong support for reflective practice, technical formation and career development.
Our Postgraduate Centre is located in Studio 44, a few minutes' walk from Arts University Plymouth’s Tavistock Place site. It houses two flexible teaching, study and display spaces dedicated to the use of postgraduate students. Teaching on MA programmes takes place at the Postgraduate Centre and across the Arts University Plymouth campus, where MA students engage with our technical facilities and areas of expertise relevant to their practice.
At Arts University Plymouth, we embed postgraduate study within a practice-led research culture. The Postgraduate Centre hosts cross-disciplinary talks and student exhibitions which form an integral part of our commitment to experimental creative practice.

Available for use by all students, FabLab Plymouth offers the latest in digital design technology including a 3D scanner, 3D printer, CNC milling machine, laser cutter, and more.
The university also has invested £8 million in its Craft, Design and Fabrication Workshops. These include jewellery studios, printed textile design workshops, glass-blowing houses, ceramics spaces and FabLab Plymouth.
The Equipment Resource Centre (ERC) is a library of equipment with a growing collection of over 6,500 items that are available to loan to students. These include digital kits and classic analogue devices.
The Print Lab is a professional printing service open to all staff and students that houses three wide-format 44" inkjet Epson printers. Arts University Plymouth’s library is an enviable resource, with over 28,000 items comprising physical and digital resources including books and journals (both print and online), DVDs, computer games, a digital video collection and subscriptions to over 90 renowned print publications.

Our Student Support team offers a team of specialist advisors who can provide MA students with information and guidance in a variety of areas, including finance and funding, disability support, counselling, health and wellbeing.

Financial Aid
You may be able to apply for a Postgraduate Loan with Student Finance England to help with course fees and living costs. The quickest and easiest way for students to apply is on the UK Government website's postgraduate loan page.
