University of Bristol: School of Law

University of Bristol
Law School
Why Bristol?
The University of Bristol is a UK top 10 university (the Guardian 2021), and is in the top five for research in the UK (Times Higher Education analysis of REF 2014). Our Law School has a proud reputation as one of the best in the country, ranked 8th in England and Wales (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020).
Based in the iconic Wills Memorial Building at the heart of Bristol, you will be challenged, inspired and empowered by our academically rigorous curriculum. With access to the latest legal thinking, and intellectually distinguished scholars at the forefront of their research fields, you will leave with a qualification that is respected around the world.
Our courses
We have a highly motivated and culturally diverse postgraduate community, who undertake a range of taught and research-based programmes under the guidance of the Law School’s leading academics. The LLM, an intense one-year course, enables you to study law at an advanced level and start to develop specialist knowledge.
The majority of our taught postgraduate students are enrolled on one of our specialist LLM programmes in areas such as Commercial Law, European Legal Studies, Human Rights Law, International Law, Public Law and more. We have recently introduced LLM programmes in International Law and International Relations, Company Law and Corporate Governance, Employment Work and Equality and Health, Law and Society.
Your future career
Our courses give students access to a diverse range of career options. The Law School is ranked #4 for most graduate trainees recruited by top law firms, according to the Chambers Student Guide 2019. Opportunities to build skills and deepen your learning experience include pro-bono initiatives such as the Bristol Law Clinic, the Human Rights Implementation Centre and Lawyers without Borders.
To hone your legal skills outside the classroom, there are also a number of thriving law-focused student societies. Our Law Club and Bar Society are both award winning, and our Mooting and Debating programme is seeing Bristol students gain a reputation for being some of the best in the country
To give students an insight into life beyond university, our vibrant and committed law alumni community offers support through a variety of initiatives, including a professional mentoring scheme and numerous networking opportunities. We also run the Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series that sees leaders in the fields of law, business, the judiciary and parliament sharing practical experience and analysis of the subjects you will be studying.
Our facilities
A refurbishment project has provided Law students with new tutor and seminar rooms, research suites, a state-of-the-art moot court, and a public-facing office for our fast-growing pro-bono clinic. The project, rated ‘Excellent’ for sustainability by BREEAM, follows the £3.1 million refurbishment of the Wills Memorial Library in 2013 and reflects the Law School’s ambition to offer students the very best blend of tradition and innovation.
Funding
Your University education is a significant investment and it is important that you consider how you will meet the expenses involved. Our Student Funding Office will provide all the support you need to explore options for funding and take control of your finances.
