Campus life
Our Scottish Borders Campus offers an innovative, design-led learning environment. Located in Galashiels, it is home to our School of Textiles and Design. After a recent £2.5million refurbishment, the institution continues to lead on education and research, with specialist resources and industry standard production equipment that are amongst the best in the UK.
Galashiels is a historical market town with strong traditions and a vibrant cultural calendar, Galashiels was established in the nineteenth century to support the flourishing textiles industry. This industry continues to thrive today, with nearby mills and industry partners such as Johnstons of Elgin and Chanel-owned Barrie Knitwear exporting luxury goods and fabrics around the world.
For a flavour of city life, Edinburgh is just 50 minutes away by train. On weekdays, a twice-daily shuttle bus connects the campus with Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh Campus. As a student, you’ll have full access to Edinburgh’s facilities, including the state-of-the-art Oriam Sports Centre and the Students’ Union.
