About postgraduate law degrees
Postgraduate law degrees give students the advanced skills and knowledge they need to become a success in the field of law.
There is a variety of different postgraduate law degrees to choose from, and you should make your selection depending on your future career goals.
For example, if you want to become a solicitor you should study the SQE – Solicitors Qualifying Examination – which is the new route to becoming a solicitor in England and Wales. Meanwhile, for those who want to become a barrister, there is a selection of Bar courses to choose from, for example the Bar Training Course or the Bar Practice Course.
An LLM – or Master of Laws – is the ideal choice for those who wish to advance their knowledge and career potential in general law or in a specific field of law. LLM programs can study law in general or they can be studied in a wide variety of specialisms from LLMs in Commercial Law and LLMs in International Law to LLMs in Taxation Law and LLMs in Maritime Law. Students choosing to study an LLM program will usually have a first degree in law or in a field closely related to their LLM specialism, for example those studying an LLM in Business Law may have completed a business-related degree and have substantial relevant work experience in the business world.
