Course Summary The MA Filmmaking course develops and nurtures independent filmmakers and prepares them for the professional film and television industries. The course has an emphasis on practice, underpinned by contextualising studies, designed to nurture students’ talent and practical skills equally.
The course prepares individuals to engage confidently with, and challenge, the fast-changing media landscape. Potential industry placement, collaborative projects and research will help you meet the film and television industry professional standards and understand the cultural and industrial needs of your chosen sector.

Our tutors are industry professionals. This allows students to receive training to industry standard from people who have up-to-date knowledge of their respective fields.

Progression A range of routes and opportunities are open to Graduates, across the creative sectors, including feature film production, factual broadcast, the independent television sector, and emerging platforms.
We are committed to providing our students every opportunity possible to speak directly with filmmakers of all kinds to learn about their journeys to becoming successful professionals in their chosen field.
Professional Perspectives
We organise a series of events throughout the year where screen professionals tell their stories. In these sessions, a Guest Speaker is invited into the school to speak about their career and experience in the industry.
The Professional Perspectives series has recently welcomed guests such as: Jason Flemyng – Actor: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Boiling Point, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels Matt Jones – TV Screenwriter & Producer: Doctor Who, Shameless, Skins, Lucky Man Lucy Pardee – Casting Director: Aftersun, Rocks, American Honey, Dirty God Tim Haines – TV Drama and Documentary Maker: Walking with Dinosaurs, Primeval, The Loch Richard Hewitt - Film Producer: Bohemian Rhapsody, The Theory of Everything, Never Let Me Go, The Aeronauts

| Entry requirements | You will need at least a 2.2 honors degree, in a relevant field, or equivalent industry experience. International students need IELTS 6.0 overall (no less than 5.5 in any band)or equivalent. Applicants for this course will be invited to attend an interview. All applicants must submit a visual portfolio with their application.This could include a short film or a show-reel (both a maximum of 10 minutes in length). |
